FAQ

What are eyelash extensions?

Not to be confused with self-stick falsies that are a single-event accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using specially formulated glue that last 2-4 weeks. Eyelash extensions are a relatively new beauty service in this country, but have been served professionally in Japan for years. It produces a beautiful set of eyes with a natural look that lasts for 2-4 weeks.

Should I be careful with who applies the eyelash extensions and should they be trained?

We cannot emphasize the importance of choosing the right eyelash technician who has been trained properly with enough experience. The wrong application of eyelash extensions may cause hygiene issues or you to lose your own lashes. Our technicians from Japan have had more than 6 years of experience.

How are eyelash extensions applied?

A single natural eyelash is isolated and an extension lash is glued to the top of your own natural eyelash approximately 1mm from the eyelid so neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin.

How long does the application take?

The procedure will take approximately 1 hour for a full set. Re-touching takes lesser time, while re-doing (removing the remaining extensions from the previous application and setting a whole new set) will take abit more than 60 minutes. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration so therefore it should not be rushed so that clients can leave with a perfect set of lashes that last 2-4 weeks. You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Often clients are so relaxed they fall asleep.

How are the lower lashes held down?

At our salon, it is important that our clients are comfortable and relaxed. We use soft surgical tape to cover your lower lashes. For clients who are allergic to surgical tape, we have special tape for sensitive skin.

Do eyelash extensions make my own lashes fall out?

No. This is the last thing we want our clients to experience. There are lots of low-skilled eyelash salons whose service may cause this. With the right operation (single lash attachment, qualified glue, and skilled technicians), you will never experience such a horror. At our Tokyo salon, many of our clients have been with us for more than 8 years and have constantly had extensions applied without encountering their lashes falling off. Eyelashes have a cycle and are constantly being replaced like your hair. If you pull hard on an extension lash and pull out your own natural lash you will have to wait 6-8 weeks for new lashes to grow.

Can I still wear eye makeup?

Yes, but you won't need mascara and you may even find you won't need eyeliner. You can still use eyeliner and eye shadow as usual but remember to remove it with a product that does not contain oil of any kind that will affect the glue. We strongly recommend using our specialized home care products to take care of your extensions. To remove eye-make up, use our oil free ROZA cleansing gel and gently remove with upward movement not down onto the eyelash extensions. Wiping down towards the lashes will cause a build up of makeup on the lashes and may lessen the life of them.

Can I wear mascara?

You won't have to. These extensions will make your lashes look like you're wearing mascara 24/7 without the clumped, streaked and smudged that you get with mascara. If you want to use mascara, we have special mascara that is removed easily with lukewarm water.

Can I curl or perm eyelash extensions?

You won't have to as the extension lashes have a natural curled shape. Using a clamp eyelash curler is not recommended as it will lessen the life of your eyelash extensions and damage them.

How long will they last?

Approximately 2-4 weeks if you take care of your new lashes as instructed by the salon. Your real lash's life cycle is around 25-28 days, and as yours grow and fall out, so will the extensions that are attached. Your lifestyle and working environment also make a difference in how long they last. A lady with eyelash extensions working in the food industry where there is a lot of heat, steam and oil may not last as long as a lady who works in an air conditioned office.

I had eyelash extensions applied a few days ago and a few lashes have fallen out - why?

Since eyelashes have a growth cycle, it is hard to determine which lash is ready to fall out naturally so it is unpredictable when applying the extensions. It is natural to 3-5 natural lashes a day.

What is re-touching? Why and how often do I need it?

Re-touching can be done within 2 weeks from your appointment. In this procedure, we remove any eyelash extensions that have either grown out too far or are not sitting correctly and add extensions to where previous ones have fallen off. If you would like to retain a full fresh set of lashes all the time, this would be a great option for you. A complete removal procedure is also required every 3-4 weeks for hygiene reasons and quality control.

Please make an appointment for re-touching WITHIN 2 weeks from your last appointment. Otherwise we can't accept re-touching appointment and it will be automatically a full re-do appointment. Re-touching bookings allow approximately 1 hour.

Can I open my eyes during the procedure?

No. Tweezers with sharp ends are used when applying the lashes. Opening your eyes halfway through the session might injure your eye area.

Do eyelash extensions come in different lengths and thickness?

Yes. Our salon specialists are trained 3-D eyelash designers who can combine 3 kinds of curls, 4 kinds of lengths, and 3 kinds of thickness to create gorgeous yet looking natural eyelash extensions for you. The length and thickness of the extensions are all applied in the design according to your preferred look, a rare professional skill you will love.

We tailor the design to suit individual clients. Some designs are not suitable for the clients' own lash condition. If you have a specific request or look please consult with your eyelash extension technicians on the day of your appointment.

Are the eyelash extensions glued to my skin?

No, it is adhered approximately 1mm from the eyelid. So your skin is not to be affected by the glue.

Is the eyelash glue and glue remover safe?

Yes, in our right hands and with our products, it is absolutely safe. Our company in Tokyo deals 80 different kinds of glues and knows all the formulas and manufacturers. We have selected the products the very best, safest and most suitable for Singapore climate.

Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone?

Yes! Eyelash extensions are so natural anyone can wear them. They are also suitable for people who wear contact lenses and glasses. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE AN EYE INFECTION OR HAVE RECENTLY UNDERGONE AN EYE OPERATION OR COSMETIC EYE SURGERY IT WOULD BE BEST TO WAIT UNTIL THE EYE AREA HAS COMPLETELY HEALED.

Why should I get eyelash extensions?

  • It will cut your beauty routine time down in the mornings
  • No runny or streaked mascara and eyeliners.
  • Lasts 2-4 weeks with proper maintenance
  • A painless non-invasive procedure
  • Safe in showers, swimming pools and saunas; however it may affect the lasting period.
  • Perfect for brides, mums on the go and busy people.

How should I be careful with my eyelash extensions?

  • For the first 5 hours avoid getting the lashes wet to allow the glue to completely dry
  • Do not use a steam room or sauna for the first 48 hours to allow glue to cure
  • Be gentle. Avoid rubbing your eyes, do not pick and play with your lashes. (Resist the temptation to touch or pull at your extensions as this will pull out your own natural lashes)
  • When drying your face blot your face and apply gentle pressure to your closed eyes, then allow the extensions to dry naturally. Don't dry them with the towel or hair dryer.
  • Do not perm or curl the extensions using a clamp eyelash curlers
  • Avoid wearing mascara as this will lessen the life of your extensions or use our special product.
  • Do not use eye make-up remover that contains any type of oil products such as petroleum. Use our special cleansing gel developed for extension users.
  • Do keep the eye area clean. Avoiding proper hygiene can result in an eye infection whether wearing eyelash extensions or not
  • Try and sleep on your back to avoid crushing your extensions in the pillow

The golden rule for wearing eyelash extensions is the lesser you touch them the longer they will last. However, it is important to keep the eye area clean.

Is there any reason why I can't have eyelash extensions applied?

We don't recommend extensions if:

  • You are an "eye rubber" due to allergies
  • Rubbing your eye is just a habit
  • You have experienced sensitivity around the eye area after using skin care or makeup or generally having sensitivity around that area.
  • You use prescribed medicated eye drops or ointment as this may coat the lashes and cause them to clump.
  • Your natural eyelashes are very curly as it will be difficult to glue an extension on.

Can eyelash extensions be removed?

Yes, at any time and for any reason. Do note that there is a removal charge. The extensions are easily removed using our professional glue remover, is safe and will cause no harm to your natural lashes.

I had my lashes applied somewhere else and they are a disaster! Can I have the lashes removed and not get new eyelash extensions at iLash Bar?

We are always happy to remove lashes that have been applied elsewhere without applying new lashes; however there will be a removal charge. Our technicians prefer not to mix their work with other peoples work because they can't be responsible for the conditions and safety. It is advised that you either allow your extensions to naturally come off or contact us to discuss the options of having the extensions removed before your appointment to have a new set applied.

What should I do before my eyelash extension appointment?

Preferably arrive with no mascara and do not perm or curl your eyelashes before your eyelash extension appointment. If you wear contact lenses please bring your contact lens case as your lenses will need to be removed. It is fine to wear foundation, eyeliner and eye shadow however your lower eyeliner maybe a little smudged from wearing the under eye cover surgical tape..

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU RECENTLY HAD YOUR EYELASHES PERMED EYELASH EXTENSIONS CANNOT BE APPLIED UNTIL 3 MONTHS AFTER THE PERMING PROCEDURE.
